On the evening of September 26, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) grantly held a Celebration dinner of the 150th anniversary and the United Nations' 70 anniversary in the UN headquater building in New York.
Ther are more than 500 guests get together in the UN banquet hall, ITU Secretary-General Mr. Zhao Houlin, the WHO Director-General Margaret chan, the UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, a dozen heads of state, such as Rwanda, Kenya, Bangladesh, Uruguay, Fiji,President of the 69th United Nations General Assembly Mr. Sam Kutesa and his wife wish World Peace and Sustainable Development, Eliminate Poverty , Broadband All, Improve Education. A special greeting video was sent by Bill Gates as well. STEM Education Foundation was invited to release the special report of programs "China Distance Satellite Real-time Education Network" & "Smart Africa". STEM Chairman Dr. Wang Ruiyun systematically made a report of programs, and Secretary-General Mr. Harrison Xia communicate with international guests in detail. After that, STEM program report has received high attention and praise, moreover, ITU Secretary-General Mr. Zhao Houlin pointed out that STEM has been one step ahead of the UN on Smart Africa project and gives a feasible solution, which is worth learning. The UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova gave a highly implementation to STEM on creating a new model for international public-welfare education, and will suppot STEM's program of Distance Satellite Real-time Education Network System to promote globally.
To honor outstanding contribution that STEM Education Foundation made on Broadband All & Smart Africa, Mr. Sam Kutesa, President of the 69th United Nations General Assembly, special awarded the global sustainable development of science and technology innovation to Dr. Wang Ruiyun, with warm applause by guests.
The program of China Distance Satellite Real-time Education Network launched on March 21, 2015, up to now it is less than 6 months. However, 200 schools have been set up distance satellite real-time education network, covering around 100,000 students, which obtained remarkable achievements. Currently, the project bidding of the second batch of 2000 satellite network schools has started, which will covering 1 million students. STEM's practical action achieved affirmation and support by many organizations of the UN, exploring a new road for implementation of distance education & smart country.
