In the afternoon of April 15th, 2016, Chinese American genetic engineering scientists Dr. Xu Chongjun visited STEM Education Foundation. STEM Chairman Dr. Wang Ruiyun and Secretary General Mr. Harrison Xia received him, and introduced China Distance Satellite Real-time Education Network system in detail, from satellite and satellite antenna to service platform, and then to the multimedia teaching equipment, meanwhile, conducted satellite real-time live interactive classroom.
Dr. Xu Chongjun expressed appreciation on STEM educational concept and achievement of half-year rapid construction of satellite education network. Meantime, he donated 20,000 dollars to STEM Education Foundation, and noted that he will fully support the development of STEM Education Foundation, promoting STEM program in the remote and poor areas in China.
On behalf of STEM Education Foundation, Chairman Dr. Wang Ruiyun expressed heartfelt appreciation for Dr.Xu’s enthusiastic donation. “Helping others will benefit yourself as well”, may Dr. Xu make greater achievements in the field of genetic engineering research and will benefit us. Hereby Dr. Wang award the donation certificates to Dr. Xu.
Dr. Xu Chongjun, graduated as Ph.D. from China academy of sciences, Shanghai institute of biochemistry, then as postdoctor from university of Minnesota University of Pittsburgh, university of Texas respectively. He serves as director of biochemistry in the Complete Genomics companies in the United States and China’s BGI.He used to be senior scientist in Hyseq company, Callida company and Affymetrix company in the United States,be R&D team leader in American ThermoFisher company. Dr.Xu Chongjun long engaged in biochemistry and molecular biology research, especially in the field of DNA sequencing, published 21 papers and 6 patents, and led the team to achieve 2 individual diagnostic kit approved by FDA in the United States; Led the genomics of shenzhen team experimental DNA sequencing the second generation sequencing machine and related reagents of localization, set up prenatal noninvasive gene detection technology, and won the national drug testing bureau approval. Currently, he is developing cancer gene detection technology.
